5th Grade Patriotic Bench Project winners!

Every year the 5th graders at Home School compete for 3 spots on the Stickney/Forest View Fire Department bench. All the staff and students vote on the 5th graders patriotic-themed designs and the top 3 winners get to paint their designs on the bench which will be displayed outside the Fire Department for the following year. It's a huge honor and a great example of creating public art for all to enjoy. This year the winners are...

Keith Haring carving fun!

Third graders learned about Keith Haring's life and work. Keith Haring was a street artist whose artwork was large-scale, fun and colorful and inspired by Keith's interests like hip-hop, break dancing, cartoons and Dr. Seuss. Students created their own Keith Haring inspired designs and carved them into tooling foil, finishing their designs off with bright colored sharpie markers and black lines tracing all of their shapes.

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year!

We learned about Chinese New Year traditions and 2nd graders created their own dragon for the celebration using a Cray Pas watercolor resist technique. We learned that this year, 2014, is the year of the horse and 3rd graders created banners using Chinese calligraphy.
